The returning Hoops boss picked up the derby day bragging rights over Michael Beale at Ibrox as Kyogo Furuhashi stepped up as he so often does to grab the only goal of the game in Govan.
Brendan Rodgers has praised 'warrior' Liam Scales as he warned Celtic's rivals: 'We will get better and better'.
Rangers had the ball in the net twice with Rabbi Matondo's effort with less than a minute played ruled out for an earlier offside call against Cyriel Dessers before the striker was involved in another major talking point as he took the ball off Gustaf Lagerbielke before racing down on goal and laying off Kemar Roofe to fire beyond Joe Hart. But after being called to the monitor by the VAR officials, Don Robertson deemed a foul and chopped the strike off.
On the Ibrox triumph, Rodgers said: "A brilliant win for us. First half we were excellent in our football. Broke down a little bit in the final third. Second half you expect them to come out being at home and under pressure to get a result but second half we showed resilience but we also had three big moments as well where we could finish the game. It becomes tighter because we didn't take those chances but so happy for the players as it is the first big result they've had together.
"We are a long way off where I want us to be and that's the reality. Hopefully after the international break we get players back but it is all about piecing it together. We've lost important players, we've got really important players injured and we've got a lot of young players who are finding out what it is like to play for a huge club.
