The Love Lane Refinery in Liverpool was opened in 1872 and soon became the beating heart of the local community, seeing more than 10,000 workers passed through the doors of the factory during its lifetime. It was very much a family affair,Known as 'sugar girls,' the majority of the workforce were female and it was on site that many friendships were made for life.
