PRAIRIE VIEW — Lightning strikes have delayed Saturday’s start of the Labor Day Classic, matching SWAC football rivals Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. The Western Division game was scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Without any more lightning, the game is scheduled to now kick off around 6:30 p.m. Both teams have been on the field for pregame warmups. It’s the season opener for both teams. Bubba McDowell is making his head-coaching debut for Prairie View following 11 seasons as an assist. Clarence McKinney is in his fourth season directing TSU.
For the second straight year, the classic features a pair of quarterbacks who are expected to start their first Labor Day Classic — TSU's Andrew Body and the Panthers’ Trazon Connley. Prairie View won last year’s game 40-17, and has won seven straight and nine of the past 10 encounters. TSU leads the series 44-32-1.
