Smaller cells could move ashore near Encinitas and in South County
The National Weather Service said shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday that thunderstorms moving long the coast had produced cloud-to-ground lightning in downtown San Diego, near North Island, and near Coronado. And there was a cell off La Jolla. But it appears that most of the convection is coming to an end.
“There were also some cells near Encinitas, and there still could be something near the border,"said Dan Gregoria, a weather service forecaster. “But it looks like it is fading away.” Moist, unstable air has been sliding down the coast of California, sparking thunderstorms and some scattered showers. The thunderstorms could return on Wednesday.
