All-Star hurler Kyle Hayes's two-year suspended sentence for violent disorder is in jeopardy following his conviction for dangerous driving, forcing him to wait until March to learn his fate.

Limerick star hurler Kyle Hayes will have to wait until at least March to discover his fate regarding a potential jail sentence for his conviction of violent disorder at a Limerick nightclub. Hayes, a five-time All-Ireland winner, received a two-year suspended sentence in March 2024 after being found guilty in December 2023 of two counts of engaging in violent disorder at Icon nightclub in Limerick City on October 28, 2019.

However, this suspended sentence was triggered following his conviction for dangerous driving at Mallow District Court last September.Hayes appeared before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court today for the re-entry of the suspended sentence. His barrister, senior counsel Brian McInerney, informed the court that the matter could not proceed as Hayes is currently appealing his dangerous driving conviction, which is scheduled to be heard in the week of March 11th. Judge Michael P Walsh, acknowledging the appeal, remanded Hayes on continuing bail to appear before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on March 19th for the suspended sentence hearing. This recent legal development follows a series of events stemming from Hayes's involvement in a nightclub altercation in 2019. He was initially sentenced to a fully suspended two-year sentence for engaging in violence outside the nightclub and a concurrent 18-month suspended sentence for violent disorder inside the establishment. While found not guilty of assault causing harm, Hayes was ordered to pay €10,000 in compensation to Cillian McCarthy, a self-employed carpenter who sustained injuries during the incident. Limerick hurling manager John Kiely, who provided a character reference for Hayes during his initial sentencing hearing, urged the judge to grant him a chance. The court ultimately suspended Hayes's sentence on the condition that he remained crime-free for two years. However, his subsequent conviction for dangerous driving has placed his freedom at risk
