The Kilmallock youngster enjoyed an impressive breakout season with Limerick in 2024.
There's a moment late in last year’s All-Ireland semi-final that has given Shane O’Brien numerous flashbacks in the six months since.
“The whole time,” he admits. “It’s definitely a horrible feeling. It’s a horrible feeling but there is nothing you can do once it is over. You can replay that shot a thousand times in your head but there is nothing you can do once the ball leaves the hurley. “They were the better team that day and unfortunately we didn’t put ourselves in the position to go on and level that game in the last 10 minutes - but we didn’t put ourselves in the right position from 40 minutes into the game.”
Clubmate Graeme Mulcahy was an obvious hero, but Aaron Gillane made quite the impression back then too. “As well as that, one of my teachers, there was a post on Instagram with myself and Aaron after the Munster final. He just said, ‘Jesus, a long time since he was collecting your journal up in the library in first year’.O’Brien already holds an All-Ireland medal having been part of the extended panel in 2023 but the logical progression for him now is to kick on and win one on the field.
