Line of Duty is making a comeback! The beloved BBC drama is set to return for a seventh series, with Christina Chong confirming her return as DI Nicky Rogerson. This exciting news follows hints from Adrian Dunbar, who plays Supt Ted Hastings, that writer Jed Mercurio was working on a new script.
Line of Duty is poised for a triumphant return with a seventh series, sending shockwaves through the television landscape. Christina Chong, the talented actress who captivated audiences as DI Nicky Rogerson in series two and six, dropped the bombshell at the recent Hollywood Saturn Awards. When pressed about a potential comeback, the 41-year-old revealed, 'So I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven.
' This exciting news follows Adrian Dunbar, renowned for his portrayal of Supt Ted Hastings, who disclosed last year that writer Jed Mercurio was diligently crafting a new script. 'He is writing... we haven't got a script on the desk yet,' he had stated. The gripping saga about the anti-corruption unit AC-12 concluded in 2021 with the stunning revelation of DCI Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) as the elusive mastermind behind 'H'.Christina's character first graced our screens back in 2014, quickly becoming a fan favorite. A member of the Major Violent Crime unit, she entangled in a passionate romance with DS Steve Arnott and ultimately emerged as a pivotal informant for him and AC-12. The actress admitted that the show's global success 'changed her life.' 'I didn't think it was going to be as big but I still to this day get recognised from that,' she confessed. 'It lifted my profile another level, and working with Jed Mercurio, who's become a huge success internationally as well.' Beyond Line of Duty, Christina has showcased her versatility in projects like Black Mirror, Doctor Who, and 24: Live Another Day. Now, she's eager to reunite with her Line of Duty colleagues, Vicky McClure, Martin Compston, and Adrian Dunbar. 'I worked with Martin Compston on a horror film. It's one of my first jobs. I think back in the day it was called Red Mist or Freak Dog. The name changed. So when I see Martin, it is almost like a homecoming where it's like, wow, you were there when I first started out. And everyone is so lovely on that set. And even Jed, I remember last time I went back during the pandemic, Jed wasn't meant to be at set, but he came to set to say hi. And I was like, wow, that's so nice.'Chong also expressed a 'selfish reason' for wanting to keep 'H''s true identity a secret, stating, 'I don't think they should, because then that means Line of Duty will be over,' revealing her fervent hope for the series to continue beyond 2026. Adding to her remarkable accomplishments, Christina is making waves in Hollywood with a starring role as La'an Noonien Singh in Paramount+'s original series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, garnering critical acclaim and award nominations. She's even venturing into the music world, recording her debut album with collaborators of Ed Sheeran. 'I am currently working on an album. Jake Gosling is producing who works with Ed Sheeran. I'm actually in Nashville next week recording and just loving it. Star Trek brought me that, my singing for it. And so my dream is to end up at the O2 in the UK with a gig. There'll be an EP probably coming out with season three (of Star Trek). I am co-writing everything.
