Lionel Messi beat Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to win the 2023 Ballon d'Or award.
The full Ballon d'Or votes from every country has been revealed and it shows that six nations did NOT vote for Lionel Messi.The 36-year-old picked up the prestigious individual award after inspiring Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar last year.Messi, however, didn't receive a single vote from Cameron, Cape Verde, Guinea, Jordan, Switzerland and Salvador as journalists from those nations failed to name him in their top five players.
Speaking after his Ballon d'Or success, he said:"It's nice to be here once more to enjoy this moment. To be able to win the World Cup and achieve my dream."I couldn't imagine having the career I've had and everything I've achieved, the fortune I've had to be part of the best team in history.Messi won his first Ballon d'Or award in 2009. He then secured the gong in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
