Whether it's an irregular lesion on the breast or a significant change in the size of one breast, breast cancer can manifest with different symptoms than the usual lump, flaky skin or increased pain. Here's what to know.

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital lights the Women and Children's Pavilion pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.Whether it's an irregular lesion on the breast or a significant change in the size of one breast, breast cancer can manifest with different symptoms than the usual lump, flaky skin or increased pain.

One sign of possible cancer in the breast is bloody discharge from the nipples. Yoga said that although discharge can be benign for breasts, clear discharge or discharge with blood in it can be a sign of something more serious. Significant changes in the size of one or both breasts can also be a sign of cancer, with breasts shrinking or growing masses possibly being advanced forms of breast cancer. Sudden tightness or firmness in the breast may be signs of breast cancer as well.

If a breast is much larger than the other, it could be a sign of breast cancer if swelling and redness occur with it. Yoga said that the key is to look for sudden changes that persist, not usual symptoms from puberty, menstrual cycles or pregnancy.
