Liverpool have become the last of the 20 Premier League teams to make their first signing of the summer, with the first deal of the Arne Slot era now made official
Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili - who will arrive at the club next summer.
The Reds believe the move is shrewd forward planning and future proofing with their three first-team keepers currently having two years left on their current contracts, although No 1 Alisson has the option of a further year. Mamardashvili, 23, has played more than 100 times for Valencia since joining from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021. He missed just one league game last season, and was the starting keeper for Georgia at Euro 2024.
"The club, through the economic possibilities it has, makes a great sale that was expected to be necessary for the club's economy and we still have Giorgi with us from a sporting point of view, who will compete with Dimitrievski and Jaume to have a good season and who can be decisive, which is what the team needs."Liverpool have started the season with two wins from two under new manager Slot, beating Ipswich Town and Brentford.
