LancsLive readers would rather see Lizz Truss elected as Prime Minister over Rishi Sunak, a poll has found.
Mr Sunak is losing his advantage over Ms Truss with the general public, a new poll from Ipsos has found, with the results showing that the proportion of people saying they thought the former Chancellor would make a good prime minister fell from 38% to 32% in the last week of July.Among Conservative voters, Mr Sunak’s fall has been even steeper.
Ms Truss has hinted she would consider further support for struggling households if made prime minister, after previously taking a hard stance on “handouts”. Her opponent, meanwhile told the BBC that the Government has a “moral responsibility” to help struggling households, and pitched himself as the more realistic candidate to be the next premier.
