LNER names first Azuma train to mark 100 years
The first London and North Eastern Railway Azuma train has been named 'Century' in a ceremony that took place at York Railway StationThe train's new livery was also unveiledLNER has unveiled its first named Azuma train in a ceremony marking 100 years of the train operator's services.
According to the train operator the design features "people with proud links to LNER past and present". David Horne, managing director at LNER, said: "It's a truly special moment for everyone at LNER to be unveiling the first named Azuma on the fourth anniversary of our Azuma trains first entering into passenger service.
Rail historian Tim Dunn said: "The LNER brand has had a colourful and pioneering history - ever since it appeared in 1923. One hundred years later, this moment brings it all together perfectly.
