George Hawthorn, who has published four books in the DI Redding series under the pen name Andrew Hawthorne, published his first work during lockdown – and was blown away by the positive reaction from readers.
A Dumbarton author whose crime thrillers are set in the town has revealed how his day job with the council has inspired his work.
“The second book was written whilst I was involved in a project for the Queen’s Jubilee where the beacon was lit on the castle. I was working with people from the castle whilst I was writing that story. “I used my background with knowledge about the election process to frame it and I’ve dealt with politicians all my life. So I use that knowledge too. But it’s totally fiction. And I’ve got to be political because of my job.”In 2020 he published Who put that spaceship on my school – inspired by stories he’d tell son, Jack, at night – and illustrated by his niece, Elle.
