Lonely Meath widower, 90, thanks community for outpouring of support over Christmas
A 90-year-old widower who spends most of his days alone has thanked a community group for making the winter “less darker”.
A total of 206 people were referred to AgeWell since March 2018 – 68% of clients are over 80, three quarters are female and 64% are widowed. “My wife died on January 2 three years ago. She came home from hospital for the Christmas dinner and that was it.“I go into Navan and I do my own shopping and cooking. I’m active enough but loneliness is hard. Sometimes I think life is pointless
“The thought still crosses my mind occasionally when I’m home alone and have too much time to think but now at least I’ve someone to call.
