Robert Kirkman has offered an optimistic update on the long-awaited live-action Invincible movie adaptation. 'People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal.'

While audiences continue to wait for the show's return, creator Robert Kirkman has offered a clarifying update on the Invincible live-action movie. First launching in early 2003, the superhero comic book franchise centers around high schooler Mark Grayson, the son of superhero Omni-Man who finally begins to display superpowers at the age of 17, leading to his following in his father's footsteps to protect the world from a variety of threats.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with ComicBook.com to discuss the 20th anniversary of the comic book, Robert Kirkman opened up about the long-awaited Invincible movie adaptation. The comic creator revealed that development is still ongoing for the film, even noting how the Prime Video show's success has helped spark further interest in getting the feature-length adaptation off the ground.

We're very much still working on that. Sometimes movies take a little bit longer. I think it's safe to say, if anything, the show has just helped that immensely. People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal. So we're riding that excitement and trying to push things forward as quickly as possible.

One of the bigger questions remains how exactly the Invincible movie will tackle its source material as the Prime Video series continues its run. Kirkman has previously confirmed that the film will not be connected to the animated show, and that part of the reason for its extended development has stemmed from the massive efforts he, Rogen and Goldberg are undertaking to ensure it feels vastly different from the show while still retaining a faithful approach to his comics.

In addition to confirming that the Invincible live-action movie would not be attached to the animated show, Kirkman previously confirmed that there would be minimal cast crossover between the two, namely Steven Yeun in the titular role, taking note of his being too old to play a 17-year-old. Given such characters as Allen the Alien are better suited to be CG creations, the film could see the returns of Rogen and others whenever it does finally begin gaining steam.
