Love Island winner Jack Fincham has been jailed for six weeks after his Cane Corso dog attacked a man. The reality star was also ordered to pay nearly £3600 in court costs.
Love Island winner Jack Fincham was sentenced to six weeks in jail for dangerous dog offences after his Cane Corso attacked a man. The 32-year-old reality star, who won the 2018 series of the ITV2 show with Dani Dyer, was led to the cells at Southend Magistrates’ Court where his TOWIE girlfriend Chloe Brockett wept in the stands. Fincham was also ordered to pay £3580 in court costs, including £200 compensation to one victim and £50 to a second.
A payment plan was set up for him to pay £400 a month after his release, as prosecutors stated he has 'no savings'.\Fincham was supported by his The Only Way Is Essex girlfriend Chloe, who visibly broke down in tears after the sentence was handed down. The couple had been spotted enjoying a luxury getaway at Champneys Spa in Hertfordshire just days before Fincham's court appearance. His brother and parents were also present at Southend Magistrates’ Court to support him as he pleaded guilty to two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog, with one incident resulting in injury. \Prosecutor Erin Peck explained that Fincham's dog bit a runner, Robert Sudell, in September 2022 in Swanley, Kent. She noted that Mr. Sudell had accepted an apology and Fincham was initially going to be cautioned and attend a responsible dog ownership course. Conditions were imposed, including requiring the dog to be muzzled, but in June last year, there was a second incident in Grays, Essex, where Fincham's dog was out of control, leading to charges. Presiding magistrate Anne Wade, sentencing, stated that Fincham was under a suspended sentence order at the time of the Swanley incident in Kent. This order, unrelated to the dog case, was for 12 weeks custody suspended for 18 months. \Wade imposed an order requiring the dog to be muzzled in public places, kept on a lead, and not left alone with anyone under the age of 16. She said, 'we find no reason not to do so,' when jailing Fincham. Wade added, 'The dog was in a public place not abiding by the conditions to be muzzled and kept on a lead.' Fincham has faced criticism previously for owning a dog with cropped ears, which he brought from Russia in 2021. However, it is likely the breeder who performed the ear cropping, as ear clipping to enhance the appearance of breeds like Dobermans is illegal in the UK but legal in other countries. Amidst the trend of 'status' dogs following the XL Bully ban, alarm bells are ringing for Cane Corsos. This bulky breed weighs a substantial eight stone but is not on the Kennel Club's list. Originally Italian guard dogs with ancestry tracing back to ancient Roman war hounds, they are imposing creatures. There's a surge in interest in Cane Corsos, with over 200 listed for sale on Pets4Home, priced between £500 and a staggering £1,800. Earlier this month, RSPCA's dog welfare expert and lead for dog control, Dr Samantha Gaines, commented: 'We've seen trends in different pets being used for antisocial behaviour and as, so-called, 'status dogs' in the past; from Staffordshire bull terriers to Rottweilers to, most recently, American XL Bullies.' 'Sadly, since the XL Bully was banned last year, it was inevitable attention would shift onto another large, powerful breed. But what's most important to remember, is the overwhelming majority of these big dogs are kept responsibly as part of loving families across the UK.
