Irish rugby star Mack Hansen has committed to Connacht and the IRFU with a new two-year contract, ending speculation about a potential move abroad.

Mack Hansen has put an end to speculation surrounding his future by committing to a new two-year contract with the Irish Rugby Football Union ( IRFU ). The 26-year-old winger will represent Ireland in their crucial Six Nations clash against France on Saturday at the Aviva Stadium, where both teams are vying for the championship title.

Hansen, who will earn his 28th Ireland cap in the match, has scored an impressive 12 tries in his international career, which began with a Six Nations debut against Wales three years ago. His outstanding performance in his debut season earned him a nomination for World Rugby's Breakthrough Player of the Year. Born and raised in Canberra, Australia, Hansen qualifies for Ireland through his mother, Fiona, who hails from Cork. He joined Connacht from the Brumbies in 2021, and this new deal will keep him with the western Irish province until the end of the 2026-27 season. Rumors had circulated that Hansen might pursue opportunities in England or France, but he has chosen to remain in Ireland. Hansen expressed his delight at signing the new contract, stating, 'Since moving to Ireland I have loved my time and I am delighted to sign this new contract. Playing in Ireland with Connacht means a huge amount to me and I feel that I have improved because of the coaching and structures here. There’s a huge amount to play for this season and I’ll be focusing my efforts on finishing strongly for Ireland and Connacht. I’d like to thank the IRFU for putting their faith in me and I’m hugely excited about the future.' IRFU performance director David Humphreys echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that securing Hansen's signature was a significant boost for Irish rugby. He lauded Hansen's proven performance, his commitment, and his popularity among fans. Humphreys expressed confidence that Hansen has even greater potential and will continue to make significant strides in the coming seasons
