However, American Keys, who had been predicted to achieve slam success when she turned professional at 14, followed her upset victory over second seed Iga Świątek in the semi-finals by claiming a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory. Keys, the oldest woman to win a grand slam title at Melbourne Park, became visibly emotional after securing the win, dedicating her triumph to her husband, who has played a crucial role in her success as her coach. In her only previous grand slam final appearance at the US Open eight years ago, Keys had been overwhelmed by nerves and won only three games against close friend Sloane Stephens. This time, Keys embraced the moment, demonstrating the mental strength and resilience she had honed over the years. Keys revealed that she had learned from Sabalenka to not hold back in crucial moments, and she put that lesson into practice. Sabalenka, used to facing opponents with less firepower, struggled to adapt to Keys' powerful shots, particularly on her serve and backhand. The Belarusian, accustomed to dominating matches, appeared rattled, making frequent glances towards her box and dropping her racket in frustration. Keys capitalized on Sabalenka's uncharacteristic errors, taking the first set with a comfortable 6-3 lead. Sabalenka, however, was not easily defeated. She regrouped after a bathroom break, taking the second set with a strong 6-2 performance. Keys' first-serve percentage dipped, and her confidence wavered as the match entered a tense decider. Sabalenka's key weapon became her short angled forehand slice, which repeatedly left Keys stranded. However, Keys, having defied expectations throughout the tournament, refused to buckle under pressure. The match reached a thrilling climax, with both players trading powerful blows. Keys seized the opportunity, returning with incredible accuracy and precision, forcing two match points. She converted the first in spectacular fashion, leaving Sabalenka in disbelief. Keys' victory was a testament to her unwavering spirit and determination. It marked a significant turning point in her career, proving that age is no barrier to achieving greatness
