According to Channing Tatum, MagicMike3 will be an all-out dance fest. 'Everybody is like, 'Less character, more dancing.' So I’ve listened,' he said.
Channing Tatum promises Magic Mike's Last Dance will be less about character and more about dancing. The actor actually made his breakthrough with the dance film Step Up in 2006, though he is perhaps best known for his titular role in the Magic Mike series. The films are loosely based on Tatum's own experiences as a young stripper in Florida and are largely responsible for turning Tatum into the Hollywood star and sex symbol he is known as today.
Though many thought the series was over after Magic Mike XXL hit theaters in 2015, a touring cabaret show, Magic Mike Live, launched the following year. A dance competition show titled Finding Magic Mike also found a home on HBO Max. Fans were surprised late last year when it was announced that a third Magic Mike movie was in the works with original director Steven Soderbergh and writer Reid Carolin returning.
This one’s going to be a full dance-icle. We’re going to swing for the fence. I’m going to dance as hard as I’ve danced in any movie other than Hail, Caesar! I want this movie to be filled with joy and fun. Everybody is like,"Less character, more dancing." So I’ve listened. Tatum was likely being facetious when he said the final film will feature"Less character, more dancing." Soderbergh has already revealed that Mike will be in a relationship for the third movie, suggesting this will be an important part of the character's development. The director also corroborated Tatum's recent comments, saying that Magic Mike's Last Dance will take the"dancing to another level.
Both the director and the lead star have been quite clear about how the third film will flaunt more dance numbers, so audiences should know exactly what to expect when Magic Mike's Last Dance streams exclusively on HBO Max, likely sometime this year. Before then, Tatum will return to the silver screen later this month in Dog, which he also directed, followed by his starring role in The Lost City alongside Sandra Bullock, slated for a theatrical release next month.
