A short, sharp earthquake registering 3.6 magnitude shook underneath several South Bay towns Sunday but did not cause any injuries or visible damage, the U.S. Geological Survey said.struck at 9:07 p.m. at a fairly shallow depth of about 1.5 miles, and was centered under several wineries south of Hollister and west of Paicines in San Benito County.
There were no reports of injuries, damage or other disruptions in the quake, which a USGS map registered as felt as far west as Santa Cruz and north as Morgan Hill, and in Salinas, Prunedale and Soledad.Saturday night between Gilroy and San Juan Bautista. USGS scientists have predicted a 63 percent chance of a magnitude 6.7 or larger quake striking the Bay Area in the next 30 years.
