Leona Maguire has made history by becoming the first Irish player to win a Ladies European Tour event after a one-shot victory at the Aramco Team Series event in Hemel Hempstead.
The Cavan native had been the front-runner throughout the tournament, but endured a difficult final round before coming out on top thanks to a stunning second shot at the closing par-five 18th.
— Ladies European Tour July 5, 2024 It was the second Irish eagle on 18 after Lauren Walsh had done likewise to round off a stunning round, her 65 seeing her finish just two shots off the lead. It's Maguire's fifth win as a professional with two victories on the LPGA Tour and two on the Symetra Tour previously.
Lee went into the heavy rough off the tee and hacked into more with her second. That meant she had to nudge the ball forward with her third and she was unable to get up and down leaving her in the clubhouse alongside Walsh on six-under par. In the end though, Maguire was able to put a bad 17 holes behind her with that memorable closing hole.
