The confusion may have come from manager Erik ten Hag’s request for the dugouts at Old Trafford to be switched around ahead of the new season, meaning Maguire was simply standing there from habit. Sure enough, after a moment, the England centre-back clicked into gear as he realised where he was supposed to be standing.
And after a few seconds of deliberation, Maguire moved to ask Seagulls captain Lewis Dunk to swap, a request the Brighton skipper agreed to.
