The Fianna Fail party leader said the exact level of increase hasn't been nailed down yet, but he recently told the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis he would seek a €10 rise. He also aims to make an impact on the issue of childcare, saying: "We improved the pay first of all some years back and that took the first year of Government. Then this September, we'll have reduced childcare fees by half."I think we have to focus on small providers and what extra support we can give to small providers to stay in the business."
An increase to Child Benefit would come after last year's budget announcement rolled out an expansion to the payment, with it now being paid in respect of 18-year-olds who are in full time education.
