Latest air quality data shows improvements on roads across the region
An updated Clean Air Plan for Greater Manchester is set to be submitted to the government - with a continued non-charging commitment for drivers. A request to allow authorities here to take down the more than 1,000 Clean Air Zone signs across Greater Manchester will also be included in the plan.

Electrifying the Stockport depot, leaders said, would not be possible within the timescales required by the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan.
A charging Clean Air Zone was due to come into effect across Greater Manchester in May 2023, but was pulled in February 2022 for a review following a public backlash. Local leaders say the new 'investment-led' approach as opposed to charging would be more effective and cheaper, and deliver clean air faster.
The plan also envisages £5m for local traffic measures, as local leaders admit bus and taxi upgrades won't bring NO2 levels within legal limits alone. Measures to reduce traffic in the St John's area of Manchester around Quay Street have been devised, together with traffic flow plans for Regent Road.
