Online holiday experts suggest travelling during Easter to save up to 50% and use two fewer days of annual leave. Prices for the same holidays are significantly cheaper in April compared to August, while many destinations enjoy warm weather.

Online holiday experts are urging Irish families to make April the new August in order to make seriously dramatic savings off their holidays.

In addition to the cost savings, as Easter falls later this year a lot of destinations will already be experiencing hot weather, a major plus for families who want to see some sun but want to avoid the blistering heatwaves that have swept Europe in previous summers. Since the start of February, bookings made by savvy customers have been on average 50% cheaper, a €1521.37 difference, if departing during the Easter holidays rather than summer, she added.

The same staggering differences in prices apply for deals from Cork airports too. One example is a ten-night all-inclusive stay, for two adults and two children at the five star Grand Muthu Oura View Beach Club, Portugal, travelling from Cork airport on 14th April, that costs €4,052. The exact same holiday travelling on the 1st August costs just under double the price at €6,563.
