that began at the Harris County Jail, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Smith was taken to the taken to jail clinic at 10:40 a.m. and treated by Harris Health medical staff. A short time later he was transferred to a hospital and was declared dead at 11:25 a.m. Smith's death is being investigated by Houston Police Department. The Sheriff's Office internal affairs division is investigating whether the agency's policies and procedures were followed in connection to Smith's death, according to the release.
