Hamilton police recently charged Leroy Quammie, 52, with two sets of charges of unauthorized practice of immigration law and theft for alleged interactions with residents in January. He’s also accused of assaulting one of the victims. Hamilton police did not elaborate on the alleged scams, and did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
One victim was a man who Quammie tried to extort $1,200 for help with his immigration status, officials allege. The money was not paid, and the two fought. Quammie is accused of punching the man in the face and closing his hand in a car door, a detective wrote in the complaints.
