A man suspected of shooting and wounding an off-duty police officer in Tempe has died after being shot by police a day later after pulling out a firearm.

Hearne was being sought after a Scottsdale police sergeant was shot Friday night as a special assignment unit was trying to serve a search warrant at a Phoenix apartment complex, according to authorities.Scottsdale police said the sergeant suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. The name of the wounded officer hasn’t been released.
