The dog ran into the water and the man went to retrieve him - but the tide came in very fast
A man and his dog who were trapped on a sandbank in Sandymount Strand were rescued by heroic volunteers from the RNLI on Saturday afternoon.
The alarm was raised at 12.30pm and the inshore lifeboat crew from Dun Laoghaire RNLI launched the inshore lifeboat within five minutes of receiving the emergency call.An RNLI crew member left the lifeboat and made his way to the man and his dog on the sandbank, where he checked their condition. "What catches many people out who walk in this area, is just how fast the tide comes in and also, that it approaches from behind.
