At least four people were held hostage by a man, who is understood to be a Dutch citizen and is known to local police
A dramatic hostage situation in the Netherlands has come to an end with all four hostages being released and a man arrested in the Dutch town of Ede.
The motive behind the incident is not clear at the time of publication, though it's understood that a masked man entered the Cafe Petticoat in Ede on Saturday morning and took at least four people, including employees, hostage. A subsequent news conference heard that the suspect had multiple knives in his possession.Several homes and shops in the area were evacuated by police before three of the hostages were initially seen fleeing the venue.
"The hostage situation in the cafe in Ede is over. The suspected hostage-taker came out around 12:30. Moments before, the fourth and last hostage had left the café. Three other hostages had already been released earlier."
