One garda was hospitalised with facial injuries as protesters threw rocks and concrete blocks at public order personnel near the former Crown Paints site
One man was arrested and three gardaí were injured during clashes at a site earmarked for the accommodation of asylum seekers in north Dublin on Friday.
However, a public order incident occurred on the Malahide Road following the demonstration. Protesters clashed with uniformed gardaí and members of the Public Order Unit.READ MORE: Tánaiste questions motivations of people who set fire to Coolock building “As this intensified, gardaí were required to use force to defend themselves while continuing to adopt a graduated approach to policing, with enforcement as a last resort,” they said. “This use of force involved the use of incapacitant spray and the ASP baton.”
The clashes occurred after a fire broke out at the premises for the second night in a row. This occurred minutes after protestors claimed they had been pepper-sprayed by gardaí.
