All services at Connolly Station in Dublin were halted after a man was reported to be in possession of a suspect firearm. Gardaí responded with a large-scale operation, evacuating the station and arresting the man. Investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí have arrested a man in Dublin following an incident at Connolly Station which saw all services in and out of the city centre station halted. Shortly after 6.20pm on Wednesday evening, Gardaí received a report of a male passenger onboard a commuter rail service arriving into the station from Sligo that had been observed to be in possession of a suspect firearm, understood to have been a shotgun. The man is believed to have gotten on the train at Maynooth.

The individual is not alleged to have made any threat towards any passenger onboard and it is understood the individual arrested is an Irish citizen and has no connection to the International Protection System. Gardaí swiftly deployed a large-scale response including several Garda Armed Response Units based in Dublin City, evacuating the station and ordering Irish Rail to suspend all services. The male, who is aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. A Garda spokesperson said the suspect firearm has now been seized and a full technical examination will be conducted to determine its status under Irish legislation. They said: 'To ensure full public safety, Gardaí evacuated Connolly Station and conducted a security sweep of both the station and the train on which this person was a passenger. There are no ongoing public safety issues due to this incident and the station has now reopened.' The Garda spokesperson further appealed for anyone with any information on the incident to contact authorities, adding they are aware of misinformation circulating online surrounding the inciden
