The incident took place in the early hours of this morning

A man in his 50s has been arrested following a fatal assault that took place at Greenfort Drive in Clondalkin, County Dublin.

Gardaí responded to an incident at 12.30am on Friday morning , where a woman in her 40s was discovered with serious injuries, believed to be stab wounds.At time of writing, her body remains at the scene pending the arrival of the state pathologist. The arrested man is currently being detained at Lucan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The house at Greenfort Drive has been sealed off and a technical examination of the area will be carried out by Garda Crime Scene examiners.
