A 24-year-old has been banned from entering branches of Tesco and Home Bargains after being charged with six shop thefts

A 24-year-old has been banned from entering branches of Tesco and Home Bargains in Hucknall after being charged with six shop thefts. Thomas Howitt appeared in court on Wednesday , having also been charged with the possession of cannabis.

Howitt was imprisoned for four months and was also made the subject of a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order . The order will stop him from entering Tesco Express on Annesley Road and Home Bargains on Ashgate Road. If Howitt were to enter these premises within the two-year duration of the CBO, he would be committing another criminal offence. Hucknall Police says it had applied for Howitt to be banned from all retail premises across Hucknall, but it was eventually decided that banning him from the two stores would be more "proportionate" given that this was where he did the majority of his offending.

Police also say a Business Crime Forum is being established, with stores being able to work alongside police to identify those causing repeated problems in the town. This behaviour could include shoplifting, aggressive begging or any other behaviour causing harassment.
