A man bought a work by artist Albrecht Dürer at a yard sale for $30 at a yard sale. It's actual estimated value is $10 million.
One man's trash is another art gallery's staple item. A man purchased a seemingly nondescript drawing from a yard sale for $30 and later found out it was worth about $10 million.how art collector Clifford Schorer of Boston was on his way to a party in 2019 when he and the work of art crossed paths.
The same CNN articles continues to report that the bookseller—who has chosen to remain anonymous—believed the drawing to be that of Albrecht Dürer, a widely renowned German artist who lived during the country’s Renaissance period. “Generally speaking, it’s an inverse relationship between how dramatic the claim is and how much of a letdown it is,” tells Schorer to CNN. “[For example] if someone tells me they have a Leonardo [da Vinci], I’m usually pretty confident I’m going to see some images that are unimpressive.”how, upon taking a closer look at the ink drawing, Schorer came to the conclusion that “it was either the greatest forgery I’ve ever seen or a masterpiece.
It ended up being the latter, and now the absolutely authenticated Dürer work—which features a Madonna and child—is with the Agnews Gallery in London sitting on a cool estimated value of about $10 million.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
