Leicestershire Police said firefighters were called to a property in Fosse Road South at about 01:45 BST on Thursday. The force said there were five people in the house, which was evacuated before the fire was extinguished.The suspect is also charged with four counts of possession of a knife blade/sharp-pointed article in a public place and one count of actual bodily harm.
He appeared before magistrates on Friday and is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court at a later date.
