Daniel Hardcastle faces accusations of murder and child cruelty in connection with the young boy's death. Police were called to an address on Central Drive on August 19 by paramedics who were called to help with the unresponsive child.The boy was rushed to hospital but could died from his injuries two days later. Hardcastle, of Central Drive, was initially charged with section 18 wounding and went before Blackpool Magistrates Court earlier this month.
After the child's death, police were granted permission to charge the 30-year-old with murder. He will return to the magistrates court on Friday. In a statement, police said: "We were called by the ambulance service at shortly after 11am on Saturday, August 19 to a report that a two-year-old boy had been found unresponsive at an address on Central Drive in the resort.
"Officers attended and the child was taken to hospital, but they very sadly died from their injuries on Monday, August 21. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time. Daniel Hardcastle , of Central Drive, appeared before Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with Section 18 wounding and was remanded into custody.
But following the child’s death and after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, he has now been charged with murder and child cruelty. He is due to appear before Blackpool Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning .Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0583 of August 19."
