Photographs from the scene, which is 150 yards away from Leith Academy, show a major emergency presence.
Emergency services descended on Primrose Street, Leith, around 2.30pm on Tuesday to reports of a man being found injured. The street has been cordoned off and enquiries remain ongoing.
One passerby said: "What looks like residents of the building were being interviewed by police, dozens of schoolchildren were standing around watching and another police van showed up when we got moved on.
