The collision occurred around 12.25am on the N60 at Ballygowan

The man, who was driving a van, died from his injuries and his body was removed to Mayo University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since re-opened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have video footage and were travelling between the Claremorris road and Ballygowan Bridge between midnight and 12.3am to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
