The passenger admits he broke the rules, but wants to see a change in the way the situation is handled

A man who was fine for putting his feet on the seat of a train has called for train staff to act with consistency or not at all, after seeing many others go unpunished. Remy Greasley was hit with an £80 sign after putting his feet on the seat of a seat opposite him on a Merseyrail train - and says that while he was in the wrong, many other people don't get fines for the same offence.

Explaining the incident, he said: "It goes without saying that I was exhausted, I'd been hit by heavy rain on the walk back to the train station also, so when the almost-empty carriages of the train arrived to take me back home it was more than a welcome sight. I boarded, took off my steamed-up glasses and sat down.

"I took my headphones out and realised they were reading me my rights and asking for my address. I apologised and took my foot down, and told them I'd not seen anywhere putting your feet up was in breach of any rules and they pointed to a poster that looked barely the size of an A4 piece of paper on the other side of the carriage."
