A man who filmed a number of movies on his phone after being paid £200 by a friend in the Ukraine cost the industry £2.1million, a court has been told. Vasile Nicolaveci, 24, filmed The Railway Children Return, Where the Crawdads Sing and Hustle while at Odeon and Showcase cinemas.
Ed Handley, prosecuting, said the FCPA had calculated the losses caused to cinemas, the film industry, streaming services and via DVD sales "in excess" of £2.1million. He told the court the defendant claimed he had only been paid around £200.
