A man has been arrested in connection with alleged fraud offences
The man was arrested in the south of the country this morning and is being questioned at a garda station.
Gardaí have been investigating allegations that he raised money by deception under alleged false pretences. A number of people have told detectives that the man told them he was suffering from a medical condition and sought money from them for treatment which he did not have. The man is being questioned in relation to allegations that he had requested and received money from a number of people, including wealthy businesspeople.The garda investigation is being led by a local team of detectives which has also consulted with specialists from the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigations.The man is still being detained tonight.
