A father of nine has been jailed for six months after reportedly stealing €1,240 worth of Lego from a Smyth's Toy Store in Cork.
John McDonagh, 51, of Bremore, near the North Dublin town of Balbriggan, pleaded guilty at Cork District Court to stealing four Lego sets from the toy shop in Cork on September 10, 2022.The man had gone drinking with a friend when he then entered the premises on Kinsale Road and stole four large Lego sets.
Defence solicitor Shane Collins Daly told the Judge that Mr McDonagh had"no reasonable excuse or rational explanation" for stealing the Lego. However, he also mentioned the man had experienced a"great deal of tragedy and loss" and was in a"highly intoxicated" state when during the incident.Appearing in court by video link from prison the defendant thanked the judge and solicitor when the case concluded.
