Man who saw tragic smash speaks of moment car 'inexplicably' ploughed into gatepost and killed teen driver
A commuter has recalled the moment a car 'inexplicably' ploughed into a gatepost in Tameside, killing its 16-year-old driver.
He said as the road changed from a 30mph to 40mph speed limit he began to accelerate and the grey Golf 'flew past him' as it overtook both his car and a Mercedes immediately behind him. He said there was a broken white line on the road so he had the right to overtake if safe, but Mr Orr deemed Shae's overtaking manoeuvre 'dangerous' as it 'fell below the standard expected of a careful and competent driver.'
Shae's family take issue with this, with his father Malcolm Marlow telling the court during questioning of the officers that he believed the call was 'cancelled' and that 'there was no burglary.' PC Ridgway agreed when the coroner asked if PC El-Hage was at this point essentially 'handing over the situation to be dealt with by another part of the police?'
