John Connolly, who hadn't seen a doctor in 15 years, discovered he needed hearing aids after his wife, Edel, insisted on a hearing test. Edel was tired of constantly repeating herself, especially when asking John to take out the bins. The couple, from Cavan, Ireland, appeared on Virgin Media's health show 'The Clinic For Well People' to share their story.

Edel, 44, thought the programme was a great opportunity for John, 46, to get a long overdue health check. But there was one test in particular she wanted him to undergo – hearing. John said: “Personally, I think my hearing is good. Sometimes I have to ask people to repeat things again. Is it just that I wasn’t listening? Could be I’m just not paying attention. It’s been said to me a few times by the kids. It’s selective hearing. My wife wants this test as she thinks I can’t hear.”
