Man Utd were interested in signing Napoli forward Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window and it could make sense to test the waters for a move next year
The striker's agent has said he is reserving "the right to take legal action" against his current club after the team posted a bizarre, now-deleted video to TikTok seemingly mocking the player. A video was posted featuring a clip of the striker’s penalty miss from their match against Bologna on Sunday, with an odd, sped-up voice dubbed over the top.
"Nobody intended to hurt anyone, these are instinctive reactions and are understandable. It is his social media account, he can do what he wants with it. All I can say is that he loves this jersey and will give everything for Napoli this season as well." The Manchester Evening News reported in February that Osimhen was high on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's summer wishlist as the Reds boss aimed to bring in a new top-class centre-forward during the transfer window before eventually signing Rasmus Hojlund from fellow Serie A side Atalanta.
The Reds are already lining up targets whose contracts will be running down next summer, meaning they could be available - as United found with Mason Mount this summer. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis named a price of £170m in the summer amid reported interest from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, but that could be significantly reduced next year given the club risks losing its prized asset for nothing a year later.
