More than eight million struggling families are due a direct debit payment of £300 to help ease the cost of living crisis this autumn.
London will get the biggest chunk of the cash , followed by the North West . Of all local authority areas in the UK, Birmingham will receive the most cash support, a total of £63m to 208,800 households. An interactive map put together by our data team shows how many people will benefit from the direct debit payment. The handout is the second of three cost of living payments adding up to £900. The next will be made in spring 2024. A separate payment of £150 was also made to 6.7m disabled people last summer, while more than eight million pensioners will receive an extra £300. All payments will be made automatically to eligible households, there is no need to apply.
