Businesswoman Marissa spoke to RSVP Magazine this month about her journey to success today and how it was the unexpected turns that led her to where she is now
Beauty entrepreneur Marissa, who is the CEO of Cocoa Brown and Carter Beauty, has said the choice to do a beauty course has led her to where she is today.
"I had my heart set on studying Business, Economics and Social Studies in Trinity, which I didn’t get," she explained. "Even though I did very well in my exams, when I got my results I bawled my eyes out because I knew I wouldn’t get my first choice. I went and did Management and Marketing with French in DIT Aungier Street and after a year of doing that, I decided to take a year out and I’m going to do a beauty course. And then that one decision changed the trajectory of my life.
"I was definitely not laid back! I was very stressed," she laughed. "I actually still have nightmares about the Leaving Cert, I’d say I have one about once a month where I am about to sit a Leaving Cert exam and I don’t feel ready for it. I think I have post traumatic stress from it, it still haunts me 20 years later. I studied very hard, I got close to 500 points so I did very well. I certainly put in the work for it.
Despite her results not going the way she had hoped, she said it has been the unexpected that brought to her where she is now - a successful businesswoman who loves what she does.
