Martin Lewis has put pressure on the government regarding the cancellation of the winter fuel payment, calling for a rethink from Chancellor Rachel Reeves. After the removal of the £300 winter fuel allowance, the financial guru has expressed concern that pensioners will find themselves in dire straits compared to last year.
He added that while he understands the reasoning behind scrapping the universal payment, the eligibility criteria need broadening: "While I agree there's a very strong argument for getting rid of the universal winter fuel payment, I think the eligibility criteria is far too narrow."
