Moneysaving expert Martin Lewis has warned anyone with a washing machine to avoid turning it own at certain times of the day.
It is hoped these saving sessions help reduce the strain on the power grid and prevent the need for national blackouts. Mr Lewis, who founded the website MoneySavingExpert.com, appeared on ITV's This Morning to deliver a "general energy security message" which he said should have been "said more by the government", MyLondon reports.He said: “We are looking at energy difficulties this winter. We hope there will not be any blackouts.
Peak hours of electricity usage in Britain is usually between 4pm and 7pm which means the risk of overloading the system during this time increases significantly. The National Grid has previously warned that blackouts could happen, especially on a "really, really cold day".
